Studio 54

As we all learned, history repeats itself. The same goes for certain fashion trends. Some we embrace, others we shudder away from. Much to my delight, we have seen the return of the 70's....

I have become slightly obsessed with the Studio 54 era and basically the 1970's in general. It may have something to do with my love for all things gold and sequins? I love the looks of Rachel Zoe and Nicole Richie who embody the era oh so well. It was a time when Halston was king, his fluid jersey dresses the requisite club 'uniform'. I really wish I was around to see the glitz and glamour surrounding the (in)famous nightclub in 1977. If those walls could talk................

Here some pieces that scream Studio 54 in all its (short lived) glory:

{Diane Von Furstenberg, Net-a-Porter}

{Halston, Net-a-Porter}

{CC Skye, Couture Candy}

{3.1 Philip Lim, Net-a-Porter}

Elephunk

I have always held a certain fondness for elephants. They are so cute - truly one of the greatest animals on the planet. Such a massive species that can be used as inspiration and often a symbol of luck, intelligence, and power. I just may have to show my love for elephants through my accessories!

A Few of My Favorite Things

After a slightly indulgent weekend at the beach complete with all things I love -boating, lobster, and champagne, I am dedicating a post to all the things in life that, for me, equal happiness. Sometimes it's the littlest thing that can make the biggest impact!

-Healthy family & friends
-Fresh fruit
-Flea markets
-Lazy summer days
-Ocean beaches
-A fresh pot of coffee (must be the Seattle in me)
-Sour patch kids
-Laughter
-Patios/decks/terraces
-Clean laundry
-Puppies
-Sales
-Pay day (not the candy bar....)
-Live music
-3 day weekends
-Apple gadgets (macbook, iphone, ipod, etc)
-Travel (anywhere!)
-Public transportation
-Foreign languages
-New York Times
-Thunderstorms
-Mint chocolate chip ice cream
-Pedicures
-Surprises

That is it for now! I suppose the next list will come when it is time to give thanks in November:)

White Hot

With the coming and going of Memorial Day weekend we are officially in the season of 'whites'. An old, old, old rule that is meant to be broken by fashion mavens everywhere. But, in the spirit of summer, there really is something to be said about the color that is always crisp, always clean, and always chic.

White flowy dresses and airy blouses add romance to just about any look. The key to avoid the whitewashed look? Just add a bold accessory or heavy metal jewelry to toughen up even the most ethereal ensemble.

And come fall, Style.com is predicting that this white hot look will continue on into the autumn months, even giving the trusted LBD a run for its money.

Some of my favorite whites for the summer (and beyond):

Diane Von Furstenberg Fantasia Blouse, $285
Marc by Marc Jacobs Devore Cotton Dress, $450
Jen's Pirate Booty Senorita Dress, $110

Look of the Week

It's the King and Queen of Cannes........... Who else? Brad & Angelina looking nothing less than amazing at the Cannes premiere of Inglorious Basterds in Tom Ford & Atelier Versace, respectively.

Could they be any hotter? I am so happy she veered away from all black on the red carpet. I love the rose chiffon and red lips combination. Fab! And, Brad always looks swoon-worthy. A job well done for Brangelina.

Happy Shopping!

Memorial Day Weekend -Sasquatch Music Festival

This upcoming weekend signifies the coming of summer. And the annual weekend for great music at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, WA. That’s right; The Gorge in George, a 20,000 person venue with sweeping views of the Columbia River. Being a native Pacific Northwesterner, trips to the Gorge were frequent, with the likes of Pearl Jam, The Dead, Coldplay, and Dave Matthews Band headlining. This year’s lineup is so awesome I contemplated a last minute ticket, but we are in a recession after all. I will just have to download Kings of Leon, Santigold, Erykah Badu, and Ben Harper from iTunes and call it a day.

This is what I would pack for a 'hypothetical' trip to the Gorge this weekend.......

1. Antik Batik Langoa Sandals, $185
2. Print Band Fedora, $12.50
3. James Perse Knit Maxi Dress, $155
4. Dooney & Burke Clear Totes Metallic Zebra Duffel, $122.50
5. Juicy Couture Striped Knit Cardigan, $250
6. Carrera 'Endurance' Sunglasses, $120
7. Ringsecletic Blue & Black Rhinestone Ring, $120
8. Kain Silk Blend Tank, $85
9. Current Elliott Long Boyfriend Jean, $245

Trendsetter - Summer Boots

Just the other day I attempted my first bare legs with boots combination (after the longest winter I can remember) and something felt a little off. Don’t get me wrong – I love the look and think it is a definite DO, it just takes some getting used to after months and months of tights. Flat ankle boots, cowboy boots, anything by Frye, etc, etc. Pair them with a flirty summer dress, denim cutoffs, boyfriend jeans, the possibilities are endless!

These Carson Pull-On Boots by Frye are my choice for the summer months. Something about this baby blue really lightens up the look for the high temperatures and the slightly stacked heel makes getting around a breeze. I want them now!

Cameron Diaz in Vogue

Cameron Diaz graces the cover of Vogue's June 2009 edition. Normally, I am not the biggest Cam fan, but I must give credit when credit is due - Ms. Diaz looks quite stunning. I can only hope to look this good when I hit 30 :) Famed photographer Mario Testino is the man behind the lens on this fabulous photo shoot.

Style File - Maxi, Maxi, Maxi

One of my favorite things in life are maxi dresses. I love, love, love them. They are just so comfortable, chic and perfect for the sweltering temps we are about to encounter.

Truly, a dress that can take you from day to night effortlessly. Swap flat gladiators for chunky platforms, add some heavy metal accessories and voila: instant update.

Be wary of super large prints and shapeless silhouettes that put you into the muumuu category (ed note - after much research I can safely say that is indeed the correct spelling).

Two of my faves:

This Twist Dye Maxi Dress from Forever21 is quite the bargain, but looks so much more expensive than it's $30 price tag.

There is something very special about this Rachel Pally Shirred Long Dress and I just can't put my finger on it. I will be scooping it up come pay-day!

Look of the Week

Elizabeth Banks killed it at the Cannes premiere of Spring Fever in a stunning Andrew Gn. Old Hollywood glamour paired with edgy cuffs = fabulous. I'd like to congratulate Lizzy on a job well done.

Label Lust - 3.1 Philip Lim

My favorite designer of all time (okay - one of the many, but this man is so consistent he is my self proclaimed 'boyfriend') Philip Lim has just expanded his amazing line to include swimwear, shoes, and unmentionables! swoon.

With sales up in the US, Asia AND Europe, the guy has no reason not to expand. I don't really want to share my boyfriend with the whole world, but who am I to hold him back from success? :)

This expansion will debut the end of this month in retail stores and go international by 2010. Swimwear will start with 3 styles, including two maillots & a bikini ($175) and his lingerie -cleverly named 3.1 Philip Lim Initials, will have 5 pieces with prices ranging from $65-$175.

Lim has already done several shoe collections, Birkenstock & Louboutin to name a few. Get ready to spend anywhere from $290 for a pair of heels to $650 boots.
