Strap Happy

Even though it is late June, we are still waiting for summer to hit in the Big Apple. We have had miserable rain, thunderstorms (which I actually like, only sporadically not every day), and seriously bi polar temperatures. We were hit with a few random days that were hot, humid, and sticky which made me rethink the whole big, leather purse idea. What I really want is a cross body bag, that is small and keeps my hands free and doesn't trap the heat to my body:)

On my search thus far I have discovered:

{West/Feren Berkshire Handbag, $175}

{Marc by Marc Jacobs Percy Bag, $198}

{Elliott Lucca Firenze Crossbody, $58}

I am going to scour the vintage shops in my LES neighborhood, and hit up a couple of flea markets before I make up my mind. The only condition is that the bag cannot be black. Black is so not the color of summer. I am thinking a warm tan, or even red if I am feeling feisty. More to come later!

Go Green

No, this isn't some eco friendly post on how to reduce your carbon footprint. Although, I'm all for that and might post on the topic at a later date. But this is a post on possibly the greatest nail polish color of 2009. First seen on the Chanel runways, this green color is slated for an October limited release. I am going to buy as many bottles as they allow when the time comes.

{Style}

In the meantime - go snap up these new colors from Essie. From left, Greenport, Sag Harbor, and Shelter Island.

Waking Up in Vegas

I am on the hunt for the perfect dress for my upcoming trip to Las Vegas. The are about 20 of us gathering in Sin City for a bachelorette party, but the emphasis is more on getting together and going out then any upcoming nuptials. So - I need a dress. A killer dress. That is Vegas hot but doesn't give it all away for free (if you catch my drift.......)

As I've already mentioned, I love, love love sequins. But I need something more red carpet and less Jesse Spano from Showgirls. I am on a budget, but I am excluding F21 for this trip, not because I don't love me some designer knockoffs, but I have a sneaking suspicion everyone and their mother will be wearing something from there......
Here are some options for my sequin fix:

{Foley & Corinna Sequin Halter Dress, $315}

{Gryphon The Sequin Tunic, $418}

More to come later. Now I'm thinking something neon pink would be pretty fab as well :)

Beauty Obsessions - What I'm Coveting....

Okay, okay. I'll admit it - I am a bit of a beauty junkie. All it takes is a small write up in the latest InStyle or a blurb from a fellow blogger and I have/need/want/must have that product.

Seeing as I live in NYC and therefore must deal with its hot & humid summers, my wavy hair grows in epic proportions a la a certain 'Friend' on her trip to Barbados. So, after much buzz about this Living Proof Wave Shaping, Curl Defining No Frizz Styling Cream, I am running to Sephora to pick it up.

+

$24 may seem like a lot during a 'recession'. But, you see, as a wavy haired, color treated, frizz prone gal, price is really not a concern. I will spend a pretty penny to have smooth, moisturized hair.

To make the most of my trip to Sephora, I will be snatching up this Benefit Cosmetics High Beam. I want that glowy, dewy look that all the stars seem to have. And I want it from a product, and not from the previously mentioned heat & humidity :) This too will set you back $24, but you can dab it on your cheeks, lids, even mix it in with your foundation for an allover sheen. Money well spent.

New Moon Trailer

Just because. I am counting down until 11/20/09.

Splurge vs Save

When it comes to the harem pants trend - it is easy to look more MC Hammer than Arabian Nights. I personally enjoy this trend, but a harem jumpsuit is a completely different animal.

This Robert Rodriguez Strapless Jumpsuit, $374?

Or

This Forever 21 Strapless Harem Pant Jumpsuit, $24.80?

Seeing as this trendy, trend, trend most likely wont last forever the $24.80 price tag is a little more wallet friendly than $374! I think this is an easy one - SAVE. I'll save my splurges for shoes, bags, this chanel watch from last week........

My Newest Purchase!

I have been dying for a cute pair of wedges - so versatile for the summer. I need versatile since any given day can take me from the subway, dinner, and bar hopping with a mile or two in between!

These Pour La Victoire Murielle Wedges originally retail for $215, but I got mine for $100 including shipping! This is why I love Bluefly and random coupon codes. I will be getting some serious use out of these bad boys.

Happy Weekend!

LA has June Gloom. Seattle has June-uary. I am not sure exactly what to call this weather we have been having here in the big apple other then atrocious. Rain, rain, go away!

This Jimmy Choo/Hunter Wellington collaboration just might be enough for to make it through this rainy season......... Here's hoping for sunshine and no more torrential downpours.

Trendsetter - Gladiator Sandals

I was in a rush to get ready for work this morning, and in the process came up with an outfit I was surprisingly pleased with. I don't have a photo, so you will just have to take my word for it :) Said outfit included a vintage white dress, belt, grandpa cardigan and a new pair of gladiator sandals. I know, I know what you are thinking. This trend has been here for awhile, but it is still on point. I hope it is here to stay, but time will only tell....

I will admit, I have more than one pair. You could say I am 'invested' in this trend:) Either flat or high heeled, the gladiator trend makes a seriously bold statement. Worn with a flowy maxi dress they toughen up an otherwise girly look. They add a bit more edge to the clean lines of a pant and blazer combo. The flat variety really are a dream for those of us slightly averse to the rubber flip flop trend taking over the world. Haviana's are great, but gladiators are even better.

Even this vintage Who What Wear Daily post discusses the gladiator shoe, and it is ancient! Well, 2007 ancient. There is some serious longevity to this look.

A pair from Balenciaga circa Feb '09

Mary Kate doesn't mess around.

What I want to know is this: what did we do before the gladiator??? For me it was jellies and salt water sandals........

Splurge vs Save

I have a new found love for watches. I used to think Cher from Clueless put it perfectly when she said "a watch doesn't really go with this outfit, daddy" when she was late for curfew and still in the valley. But, after inheriting my grandfathers awesomely cool vintage Rolex, I was a convert. Telling time actually can be cool. And stylish. And an excuse to leave my cell phone at home..... My current watch is gold and I'm looking for something a little different..... White ceramic to be exact!

I love this Michael Kors Chronograph Resin Watch, and at $225 it is a reasonable expenditure.

I love, love, love this Chanel J12 Diamond but at $9,950 it's a bit more of an investment.

This one is easy - I am on a recession budget afterall! I'd rather put ten grand towards a home, a car, an extravagant vacation. Someday.....

Label Lust - Wildfox Couture

It might be because I'm spending my summer in a concrete jungle, but lately I have been really fixated on California girl style. So-Cal to be exact. Wildfox Couture embodies this persona with their edgy vintage inspired looks. Just take a gander at some of the images from their upcoming lookbook, as well as seasons past.

Oh how I heart them! And their upcoming Fall '09 campaign is Killer Vampires in Beverly Hills. Totally. Awesome.

Some of the things I will have to snap up from the current collection:

I love this! Something about the peachy pink color and letting everyone know that extinction really is forever.

I will have to rock this in the urban jungle aka NYC this summer to let everyone know where I would rather be.....

Look of the Week - MTV Movie Awards Edition

I have to admit I'm a little (okay, a lot) disappointed with the fashion at this years movie awards. This is not the Oscars, people! Where were all the young, fun ensembles? Since there is no clear winner - I'm going straight to the losers circle.

{images via the cut}

It's a tie between these two. First of all, I may be judging more harshly since I do not like either or these leading ladies, but fashion is at the forefront here. Miley - are you going to a business meeting later? Boring dress, boring color, boring shoes. Boring. Kristen - are you just so over it you are wearing Converse with your pseudo-spiderman costume on the red carpet at 18? PS, please stop playing with your hair!

Rant over:)
